Study in the UK Blog

Posted on November 3rd, 2011 by Caitlin Collom

Hello All,

I recieved my first graded paper back and feel so relieved.  I now have a better understanding of the grading system here and also what I need to do to recieve high marks.  The first paper is always the worst especially if you’ve been out of school for a couple of years as I have been.  My next couple of assignments involve a 4000-5000 word essay on India-Pakistan Nuclear Doctrines and a team presentation on Counterinsurgency.  Should be a busy month!

Back home my parents just got a new puppy and ended up having a litter of puppies.  Of course they wait until I’m gone to have a house full of puppies!  I recieve picture updates and those Akita puppies are just beautiful.  If there is one thing I miss about home that I don’t have here (other than a car) it’s being around dogs.  Man’s best friend for sure!

This month for me is bound to be one of the busiest.  I have a friend visiting next weekend and two weekends after that I will be heading to Glasgow for ALTERBRIDGE (just to get a little taste of home), not to mention working on the assignments due just a little bit after that.  I keep forgetting I’m not just here to have fun!  I am here to recieve a degree and learn as much as I can!

Back home my friends, VanMarter Project, released their second single, Guaranteed Tomorrow.  The video was shot on a short tour they took to Utah.  On this tour to Utah they stopped at a Junior High and helped raise money for the school’s arts/music programs.  I was so proud of them.  Here is a link to their video.  I suggest you guys check them out!!

    Hi Cait,

I have been interested about studying abroad and am in the process of taking some international business courses to prepare myself. For one of my classes I have been asked to contact a student that is studying abroad and ask them two questions relating to International Business. I have been searching on different blogs trying to find people in different locations and I see that you are in the UK. If you would be willing to help it would be really appreciated.

The first question that I would like to ask is: What do you think is the most difficult challenge for U.S. businesses that want to do business in the UK?

The second question I would like to ask is: What advice or suggestions do you have for American companies that want to do business in the UK?

Thank you for your time Cait and can’t wait to hear back from you! My email is besummers@wichita.edu if you have any questions for me.

Answer 1: Culture and demographic. Even though the cultural gap narrows every year it still remains and needs to be understood. The demographic difficulty comprises regional challenges that overlap or underlap with cultural ideas. If a business takes a blanket approach and chooses to ignore these issues they would need a top tier product of offering that bridges the divides (think iPhone).

Answer 2: Heed the information above and do not think we are a state of the US!

Hope this helps even though its a short answer its a long problem!

    Regards

    Paul

Thanks for these tips. One thing I should also believe is credit cards featuring a 0% rate often bait consumers in zero rate, instant authorization and easy on the web balance transfers, but beware of the real factor that is going to void your own 0% easy streets annual percentage rate plus throw one out into the very poor house quick.aiyi9527$$$$$
