William Velez is the International Admissions and Recruitment Specialist at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon. William oversees international student’s admission and recruitment into Chemeketa’s Intensive English program and college level programs.

He began his career as an international student from Dominican Republic in 2002. He attended Goshen College in Indiana, USA where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Music. At Goshen he also started working in the field of admissions, working 8 years in both domestic and international students’ recruitment and admissions.

William earned his Master of Arts in Intercultural Leadership degree from Goshen College in December 2014. During his career William has travelled to over 15 countries meeting students and their families and assisting them through the USA admissions and recruitment process. He is especially interested in the transition of the students into the USA educational culture. “Having come to the USA as an international student, I believe that we (admissions counselors and advisors) can make a huge difference in international students acclimatization to the USA culture” – William.

Chemeketa Community College is a public, two year, institution that meets educational and career needs of a wide range of students of all age groups and experiences. Each year Chemeketa serves about 10,000 students, 175 of whom are international students from a variety of cultures, ethnicities and countries. Chemeketa awards associate degrees and certificates in a broad range of college transfer courses and more than 70 technical-vocational fields. Among the more popular transfer programs include business, social sciences, and engineering. Some of Chemeketa’s outstanding two-year degree programs include computer electronics, graphic design, nursing, and Wine Studies, among several others. Intensive English language training is provided through the Chemeketa Language and Culture Institute. The Language Institute offers both short term and long term English Language study and does not require a TOEFL or any other exam for admission. Chemeketa is fully accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
