My Dear Barcelona

Posted on January 22nd, 2009 by Matt Brattin

Going on exchange, in retrospect, has turned out to not only be the best decision I made during my undergrad, but also while here in Barcelona. It was a much more difficult decision to make this time, however, knowing that I would be leaving such an incredible city behind for about six months. Yet, considering my post-MBA goals, I knew it was the best thing for me to do. Now, I have finally found my way back to my dear Barcelona and, all things considered, I’m very happy to be back!

    Welcome back, Matt!

How is the general mood among the MBA students during this economic downturn?

Excellent question, I think the general mood has undergone a number of phases, the most recent being hopeful optimism. Previously, around the beginning of last term, many people were angry, frustrated and confused about everything. Clearly, this is an extremely difficult time to be a soon-to-be MBA. However, I think this has actually brought most people to a point where they have been forced to figure out what it is they are truly passionate about, and I think over the next year or so we are going to see a great number of new businesses being started up by MBAs who went after their calling after graduation instead of taking the more conventional (but now much less available) route and taking a corporate job. Very interesting times we are living in, but hopefully we will all be able to learn from this and apply what we learn in the future.

Formerly, approximately the launch of last term, many students were annoyed, disturbed and puzzled about the whole thing. Noticeably, this is a tremendously tricky time to be a soon-to-be MBA
