Test Preparation

For many international students, an English program is only the first step to greater involvement in the United States. This may include study at a university or college, or perhaps employment. The next step is the bridge between general English language knowledge and recognized acceptance of your abilities by potential secondary schools and employers: Test Preparation

As non-native English speaker, you have unique needs as you seek to enhance your classroom and study skills in preparation for entrance examinations. Of course, these needs can best be met in an environment where you are on par with your fellow students not struggling to understand the instructor or surrounded by native speakers! Chooses from one of the following specialized courses:

  1. TOEFL
  2. GMAT
  3. TOEIC

TEFL

Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) opens the door to many opportunities. ESL teachers have the opportunity to stay in the United States or travel abroad. ESL classrooms are a venue for not only learning English, but also learning about cultures, teaching about people, and establishing life long friendships.

As English has become a global language, Boston Academy of English recognizes the need to both learn and teach English. In addition to teaching ESL, we have developed a TEFL course.

Boston Academy of English's TEFL course is highly effective and our graduates are always satisfied with the skills they learn. Trainees benefit from our course in many ways. As they study the strategies to become effective ESL teachers, they observe experienced ESL instructors teaching a class. The TEFL Course and our Intensive English Course run simultaneously. Our teachers and trainees share the same teacher's room, which allows the trainees to ask our instructors about the concepts they have learned in class. We offer two courses - full time and part time.

Both programs cover the same materials and methodologies. Some of the topics covered in the course include classroom mechanics, different teaching theories, lesson planning, pronunciation, grammar, listening and speaking and error correction techniques. The TEFL course also includes peer teaching and evaluation, and at least eight hours of teaching practice. Trainees will be evaluated on homework, exams and a final project. At the end of the course each trainee will receive a grade.
