William Peace University
William Peace University is located in the heart [downtown] of Raleigh, North Carolina. Its mission is to prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow. On average, more than 90 percent of the university’s graduates are placed in jobs or graduate school within one year of graduation.
From campus, it’s an easy stroll – or a free bus ride – to the heart of the City of Oaks, its political pulse, and its rich and varied museums, music halls, restaurants, theaters and nightlife. Observe the state legislature in session, dine downtown in popular cafés, attend concerts or enjoy live theatre at the REP and NCSU. Raleigh is nationally ranked as one of the top five Hottest Job Markets for Young Adults, a Top Ten Technology Town and City for Singles and one of the most vibrant college sports areas in the nation.
WPU has over 30 student clubs and organizations, great lawns to spread out and study or play and hosts a multitude of activities. Some of our most recent activities include: Going out downtown to First Friday; Bonfire; Zombie Tag; Giant (we think it was two-story) Slip ‘n Slide; T-Shirt swap; and more!
Peace is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and of the USA South Athletic Conference. As a member of NCAA DIII, Peace promotes a spirit of participation and a love for sports as the primary motivators for intercollegiate competition. For women, we offer team basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. For men, there’s basketball, golf and cross country. In 2014, we will also add men’s baseball and soccer!
The educational experience at Peace goes beyond the classroom. We teach you the skills necessary to succeed in both your professional and private lives. On average, more than 90 percent of our graduates begin careers or pursue higher education within a year of graduation.
The academic majors at WPU represent areas that connect to growing professional fields and demands. They incorporate pre-professional and liberal arts components. They include flexible pairings and specialized concentrations within each major.
New Courses: Our new core curriculum emphasizes basic knowledge needed beyond graduation. Mandatory courses in personal financial management, media literacy and four years of writing courses within the English department.
Professional Development / Careers: A series of three classes focusing on career and professional development is a requirement. Through the Portfolio Seminars Series, you’ll learn how to construct a résumé, build a portfolio, interview for a job or apply for graduate school.
Internships: An academic internship related to your major is required, with the goal of combining educational theory with job experience. Research Triangle Park, one of the nation’s most innovative business and technical communities nearby, provides internship opportunities in finance, pharmaceuticals and research, sports, law and politics. Sixty percent of Peace graduates report their college internships result in job offers.
Advising: Your skilled adviser for all four years will help you to explore careers, assist with decision-making and provide personal attention to all areas of college life, both academic and social.
