About Fisher College

At Fisher College, we believe that college is more than just an education—it's a life-changing experience. For more than a century, Fisher has been changing lives by providing opportunities to students focused on the three most important aspects of a college experience: education, dedication, and life.

Fisher College was founded in 1903 in the working-class city of Somerville, Massachusetts, less than two miles outside of the city of Boston. Myron and Edmund Fisher, the brotherly entrepreneurs who founded the early college that would become Fisher College were focused on providing immigrants in the city of Boston the opportunity to advance beyond their unskilled Labor jobs. Later, the Massachusetts Board of Regents of Higher Education approved Fisher College as a two-year university, leading to Fisher’s acceptance as a degree-granting institution five years later. Their roots foster a diverse campus environment with a student body from across all part of America and countries across the globe.

Fisher College’s mission is to improve lives by providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a lifetime of intellectual and professional pursuits.

Global Buddies Program

The Global Buddies programs aims to immerse Fisher College international students into life in the United States and introduce American students to new cultures through social interaction and mutual understanding. The program was founded on the idea that students can all learn from one another and hopes to foster a global learning experience and strengthen the ties between international students and their American classmates. International and American students are matched together based on common interests and personalities in order to enhance the relationship. Fisher’s aim is to make our community your home away from home.

Buddies meet at least one time per month, and can plan activities based on their mutual interests. Some of the activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Meeting together for a cup of coffee
  • Having lunch together
  • Meeting to discuss topics of mutual interest, current events, or just to talk
  • Attending a Fisher College event, such as a sporting event, play, or field trip

Pathway Program

The Fisher Pathway Program is designed for international freshman and provides an opportunity for academic study in classes that are geared to help students succeed in an American university. Students enroll in credit-earning classes taught by professors whose experience teaching international students will allow them to transition more easily to their second year of college while preparing for a baccalaureate degree.
