Finals… Oh oh! Summer in the USA?

May 5th, 2009 by Laura Herrejón

Ok… so by now I have been living in the United States for about 2 years, and I have completed almost 4 semesters in college and I still struggle at the time of the final exams. It takes a lot of dedication and time to be able to concentrate in the final weeks when knowing that summer is right out the door. This time I am staying in the USA for the summer, taking 9 credit hours (3 classes) and working while doing an internship! YES I  AM GOING TO BE SUPER BUSY!

I am excited though, I have to say that throughout these past 2 years I have improved my English in an unimaginable way…specially slang!

Also, today I just found out that I will be getting an scholarship!  I finally feel like trying so hard is worth it! Hopefully I can give back to the world!

    Hi :)
I’m a Malaysian student hoping to further my studies in the States, but costs for international students are really high to me. Right now I’m scouring through pages and pages of university websites in hopes of finding one which my family can afford.
and then I got somehow linked to your page and its great. Your writing is like a break for me in my effort to look for unis.
:) thank you. keep it up. I really enjoy reading your blog. Good luck.

    Hi Laura,
I have kind of the same story as you. I have been in the US for almost 2 years now. I am from France living in Miami. I’m taking summer classes now to finally graduate. I am in college tho about to transfer to a university to get a degree in International business. I like your blog because your stories sound familiar.
Reading this post, I was surprised to find out that you have a job and that you are doing an internship at the same time. I’m actually trying to find out how to go about finding an internship here. If you could share a bit of how you did get your internship and some infos on what it is about that would be really helpful.
Thanks and good luck with your summer classes!

Hi, I’m an international student already studying in the U.S for the past 2 years. I’ve been surviving on loans but now, due to the economy, I can’t even get those since I’m international. I’m in a deep search for scholarships or any funding. Can you pls advise? I really need the money for school or else, I would have to go back home. Please let me know your contact info if you don’t mind so that I can speak to you regarding my situation.
    I really appreciate it. Thanks!!

    Zain

    Hi Audrey,

I am so glad I have been of some help to you. Well, I got my internshi pthrough working with some full-time employees on campus. It happened that at the same time I wanted to take the internship class and well it turned out great. What I did discover is that most of the time, when you sign up for this type of class, the professor will usually help you find it. Try to reach to your advisor or professors, they have really helped me!

    Thank you for your comment!

    Laura

    Hi Zain,

About financial aid, I really wish I could help you a little more…but the truth is that as an international students sometimes it gets a little hard to obtain financial help. I applied for two years for any sort of help, and until this semester I received just a little. Have you considered working? International students can work up to 20 hours a week on a regular semester.
