About American University of Antigua

American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is a fully accredited international medical school dedicated to providing a medical education of the highest quality, with an emphasis on increasing minority representation and racial diversity in medical education and in the physician workforce. AUA uses a holistic admissions approach to select students with the potential for medical school success and provides them with the resources they need to obtain highly competitive residencies and move on to successful careers in medicine.

AICASA- Through an articulation agreement with AICASA, American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) offers a program that gives students the opportunity to begin their medical education after graduating from high school. Qualified graduates of AICASA’s two-year Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences are given preferential admission status to AUA College of Medicine.

Living in Antigua will provide students with 365 white-sand beaches, two golf courses, several stables for horseback riding and an unlimited number of outdoor activities to choose from. Students can relax between classes by just lounging in the sand, or enjoy their weekends ziplining, surfing, sailing, kayaking, swimming with stingrays or exploring a sunken ship.

Admissions

A minimum of 90 credit hours are required to apply at AUA, and it is strongly recommended that applicants have a degree from an accredited undergraduate institution. MCAT scores are not required for the February 2021 class.

AUA requires certain admissions prerequisites and will require a transcript from each previous school attended. In addition, two letters of recommendation, a “dean’s letter, a criminal background check, and an in person or remote interview are required. Scholarships and Grants

AUA has more than 20 scholarships available to students who have been accepted at AUA. Academic awards, service awards, and cultural awards are the three core categories that students can explore to find a scholarship they might be eligible to receive. Not all students will receive a scholarship, but the first step in exploring this is to submit your information to learn more, or apply right online.

English at AUA

AUA’s curriculum is taught in English, and all accepted students must be proficient in English. We may require a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Test System (IELTS) test score and/or require an admissions faculty interview from any applicant if it appears that English language proficiency could interfere with that student’s academic success at AUA. The TOEFL code assigned to American University of Antigua College of Medicine is B573. An international applicant who completes his/her required academic courses from an English-speaking academic institution will be exempt from this requirement.

AUA’s COVID-19 Response

With the COVID-19 pandemic, travel complications, and our students’ safety in mind, American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is able to provide students with options. All AUA students, including incoming Med 1 students starting August 2021, can participate remotely either from their homes or from Antigua with access to our pre-clinical campus and in-person access to our pre-clinical faculty. Students who opt to participate from Antigua would have in-person access to AUA faculty and facilities, superior wi-fi access for learning and exams, and other educational benefits that are available only on campus
