About American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA)

American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is an accredited international medical school dedicated to providing a medical education of the highest quality, with an emphasis on increasing minority representation and racial diversity in medical education and in the physician workforce. AUA uses a holistic admissions approach to select students with the potential for medical school success and provides them with the resources they need to obtain highly competitive residencies and move on to successful careers in medicine.

Students can also enter the premedical program at American International College of Arts and Sciences (AICASA). Through this program, students can complete and reinforce the coursework typically required for admission to most US medical school programs. Qualified graduates of AICASA’s are given preferential admission status to AUA College of Medicine.

Student Life

At AUA students have access to dozens of opportunities to lead a well-rounded and rewarding educational journey. Admissions

A minimum of 90 credit hours are required to apply at AUA, and it is strongly recommended that applicants have a degree from an accredited undergraduate institution. MCAT scores are not required for the February 2022 class.

AUA requires certain admissions prerequisites and will require a transcript from each previous school attended. In addition, two letters of recommendation, a “dean’s letter, a criminal background check, and an in person or remote interview are required. Accreditation

Upon passing the necessary licensure exams, AUA graduates are eligible to practice medicine in all 50 U.S. states, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, and worldwide. Here are just a few accreditation and recognitions AUA can boast:

  • Accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP)

  • Recognized by the Medical Board of California

  • Licensed by the Commission for Independent Education of the Florida Department for Education

  • Approved by the New York State Education Department

  • Graduates are eligible to participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS)

English Language at AUA

AUA’s curriculum is taught in English, and all accepted students must be proficient in English. We may require a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Test System (IELTS) test score and/or require an admissions faculty interview from any applicant if it appears that English language proficiency could interfere with that student’s academic success at AUA. The TOEFL code assigned to American University of Antigua College of Medicine is B573. An international applicant who completes his/her required academic courses from an English-speaking academic institution will be exempt from this requirement.
