The Academic ESL program at the College of Lake County is also known as the English Language Instruction (ELI) program. CLC's ELI program is award-winning with five levels of English language training. The English as a second language program was designed for ESL students who are motivated to learn English as quickly as possible with the goal to meet the required college reading and writing readiness for college classes, transfer to universities or to practice a profession in the U.S. This program is perfect for international students, au pairs, US high school graduates and any other English learner who is motived to meet their academic or professional goals.

Students taking ELI courses have access to:

  • ELI tutor
  • State-of-the-art language lab with 34 stations open 35+ hours a week for individual use
  • Full-time lab assistant
  • Language software for practice with all language skills

Guaranteed Transfer Admission

At CLC, students have the opportunity to participate in the Guaranteed Transfer Admission (GTA) program. This program allows students to transfer to the four-year institution of their choice. Our GTA agreements provide CLC students to transfer to earn their bachelor's degree to several participating partner colleges and universities in the region, nation, and abroad.
