Nicholls State University (NSU) is located in Thibodaux, Louisiana and serves about 6,500 students, a large portion of whom are first-generation. There are more than 100 bachelor's and master's degree programs, 90+ student organizations and 14 Division I athletic teams on campus. Since opening in 1948, Nicholls has been the only university serving the Bayou Region. In addition, Nicholls is an accredited university by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
NSU's location can be characterized by its rich culture. The Thibodaux campus spans across 287 acres and is about 50 miles from Louisiana's most famous city, New Orleans, providing the opportunity for students to work in this market upon graduation. Additionally, International Student Services is responsible for maintaining compliance with SEVIS and conducts international student orientation each semester to ensure that the transition to NSU goes smoothly.
There are more than 90 clubs and organizations on the NSU campus that students can get involved with based on their interests. These groups fall into 9 different categories: Academic Honor Society, Recreation, Special Interest, Greek, Religious, Honorary and University Sponsored. Students can even form their own group by filling out a Registered Student Organization form.
The NSU Student Government Association (SGA) is made up of students whose duty is to serve and unify the campus. The SGA's mission is to ensure the best possible college experience through diversity, guaranteeing that voices from various backgrounds are represented.
