Master's Degree and Certificate Programs in a Variety of Content Areas and Formats

SIT Graduate Institute prepares students from across the globe to be effective leaders, professionals, and citizens. SIT’s graduate and professional development programs are rooted in the experiential education model, where learning occurs at the nexus of theory and practice. Students are trained to become highly skilled practitioners who have a commanding knowledge of the theoretical basis of their profession; experience in the field; and an awareness of their own capabilities, values, and ethics.

Students can choose from various master’s degrees, certificate programs, and professional development programs in fields ranging from international education to sustainable development to conflict transformation to language teaching. In order to accommodate diverse professional and personal objectives, programs of varying duration and format are offered on SIT’s historic 200-acre campus in Vermont; at the SIT Graduate Institute Washington, DC Center; online; and at overseas field sites. In each program area, students examine contemporary social, economic, and political issues, with particular attention to the human and ethical dimensions of these issues.

MA In Sustainable Development

Acquire the skills, knowledge, and experience to make significant contributions in the field of development. SIT’s Master of Arts in Sustainable Development: Advocacy, Leadership, and Social Change program prepares graduates for positions in organizations working toward a more equitable and sustainable use of the world’s wealth and natural resources. The program emphasizes the importance of civil society actors and institutions, including NGOs, community programs, social movements, coalitions, and faith-based organizations. Vermont is at the forefront of sustainable development initiatives in the US, and students in the program are able to connect with local communities and relevant organizations, including those led by SIT alumni.

MA in Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation

Acquire practical skills and strategies for peacebuilding based on a holistic, multidisciplinary approach and real-world experience in the field. SIT’s Master of Arts in Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation program is designed to give students the analytical ability, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills necessary to work with groups of people in conflict. Student can choose to focus on conflict in relation to development, inter-group relations, youth programs, humanitarian aid, education, or human rights.

Masters of Arts in International Education

Learn to plan and manage international education and exchange programs from a leader in the field for more than 80 years. Develop expertise in areas that include advising, exchange management, nonformal and community education, volunteer program management, language teaching administration, and development education. SIT Graduate Institute’s Inclusive Security: International Policy and Practice Certificate is designed to train professionals to lead innovative and more sustainable approaches to peacebuilding. The goal of the program is to develop a sustained network of inclusive and human security practitioners who can bridge institutional and international dif¬ferences. This program is offered through a partnership between SIT Graduate Institute and The Institute for Inclusive Security.

SIT Graduate Institute’s Monitoring and Evaluation Certificate is a part-time, graduate-level program for working professionals. The nine-credit program consists of four courses, including a project practicum where students work with their own organizations and present a final paper based on organizational project experience and learning.

SIT Graduate Institute’s Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Certificate is designed to provide professionals with essential career-advancing skills in cutting-edge business practices and social change concepts. Drawing upon SIT’s commitment to and expertise in the social change arena, the program will teach participants mission-driven and market-sensitive solutions designed to work across sectors.
