At the University of Minnesota getting around campus is easy! Many students choose to walk, bike, or rollerblade through the campus grounds. Also, free campus shuttles run every few minutes, providing quick, convenient transportation for students on the go. You can also venture off campus to explore the city by taking the Metro Transit bus or light rail, including the Green Line, which connects downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis and runs through the heart of our Minneapolis campus.

Scholarships

Global Excellence Scholarships (Merit-based awards)

All international freshmen and transfer students who complete their applications for admission by the deadlines are automatically considered for a Global Excellence Scholarship. For the 2021-22 academic year, international freshmen can receive scholarships of $25,000, $15,000, or $10,000 per year for up to four years. Transfer students may receive $10,000 per year for up to three years when entering the University in the Fall semester.

International Student and Scholar Services Scholarships (Need-based awards)

Various scholarships are available for new international students based on criteria such as financial need, academic merit, and educational goals. Students are required to complete an online application and several short essays for consideration. Applications for need-based scholarships must be completed no later than February 1, 2021. To be eligible for consideration for the need-based scholarships, students must complete their application for admission by the regular deadline (January 1 for freshman applicants; transfer admission deadlines vary) and be admitted to the University of Minnesota by April 1.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Scholarship (UROS)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Scholarship (UROS) is awarded to high-achieving students with an interest in research. Recipients work on a research project with a faculty mentor and receive a stipend of approximately $1,700.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides University of Minnesota undergraduates from every college, major, and discipline, the opportunity to partner with a faculty member on research or creative projects.
