Student Visa

Posted on July 11th, 2011 by Caitlin Collom

Countdown to Aberdeen:  69 days

Actual Work Days left:  17 days!!!!!  (Wow that’s crazy)  I love 3-4 day work weeks.

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.   I had a great time this year for the 4th of July.  A couple of friends and I had a BBQ, set off some fireworks, and then decided to go to the park and watch the professional firework show.  The Coeur d’Alene Firework show was actually quite fantastic this year.  They went all out for the finale.  I wish I had a video to show you.

I’ve also been working on getting everything finalized for school.  Over the past two weeks I have been working on my Student Visa application.  The whole process was slightly confusing and even now I wonder if I completed it correctly.  Since I live in the United States I started my application online and paid online.  After you do the quick online application you have two more forms to print out and complete and make sure you have all of your support documents.   The fee for the visa was also more than I was expecting.  They must have recently raised the price.  The visa cost over $400.00.  Ouch!

My next step is moving out of my apartment.  I am dreading this.  I’ll have to go through all my documents  and belongings(which needs to get done anyways) and pack everything into storage bins to store at my parent’s house.  I have a friend letting me stay in a small studio apartment for free for the month of August until I leave in September.  HUGE MONEY SAVER.  Which means I need to be out of my apartment by the end of the month.   Wish me luck!

I recieved a Welcome letter from my Professor at Aberdeen going over some details of the Strategic Studies program.  Included in the letter was a recommended reading list.  I have never been so excited to recieve a reading list!  I checked out my local library which did not have one of the books listed.  Instead I purchased several of the books online.  I think they’ll be great references for any papers I’ll need to write.

Stay safe everyone there’s a lot of changes going on in the world!

Hey there. I enjoy you blog. I am about where you are in my preparation to study at Bristol. At this point however, I’ve yet to get a loan confirmation. What have you heard?

Hello! I recieved a loan confirmation close to two months ago. They were very fast, but I am just concerned about the US economy right now. It won’t be good if the US defaults on their loans.. could have quite a ripple effect on students. I am still waiting to hear about my Visa Application tho. They stated it should take around ten days so I’m hoping for next week. Keep me posted on how things are going and good luck in Bristol!
