Congratulations Sandy Florez and Hello 2 Ciao!

The toughest job in show business – that’s the job we hand to our judges each year. Getting from dozens of excellent videos down to the 14 finalists is not easy – but then to pick the best of the 14 is almost impossible. Hey, no one said life is fair.

Gorilla Dreams made us laugh, I Feel I Dance moved us, and we think Ashley Barber should wear a helmet and Kevlar suit on a daily basis. We really want Pear to make it to Spain, Ife to get to India, and Tim to make it to New Zealand. And Mountaineer Kara Barnes was great, calling out judges by name and getting the man on the street view of China. Mostly, we wish we could give 14 prizes. But after much debate, we named our winners.

Hello to Ciao - Sandy Florez

Sandy Florez won over the judges with her straightforward appeal and storyline, well-crafted video and clever concepts and effects. Not a film-maker, Sandy nevertheless knows how to tell a story and convey her passion. Congratulations Sandy – we enjoyed hearing from you in Perugia!

Danielle's Story - Danielle Koehler

A little princess dominates her fairytale world, until she grows up and slowly realizes that she wants to live in and experience the real world. After time in Nicaragua and the Dominican, Danielle made plans to go to Argentina for a semester, bring her video camera along, and continue to share her great stories.

The Study Abroad Show - Lindo Lindo

What can we say about Filipino Lindo Lindo? He made us laugh, and we are sure that he made lots more people laugh during his study at North Central College in Illinois (USA). His video takes us through his initial scholarship application and “getting the call”, his brave Mom even makes a cameo, then on to the dance and Chaplin routines. Just watch it.

Milkland - Xiaowen Zhu

How can a film about milk be eerie? We’re not really sure, but Xiaowen Zhu pulled it off. A fine arts student from Beijing who studied at Syracuse University, really wanted to travel to Switzerland and drink milk. Sound strange? Maybe so, but the film is awesome.
