I started completing a Masters in Orientation and Mobility through Western Michigan University in 2019 and was due to travel to the US in June 2020, to be there for 6 months to complete my degree. The focus of the degree is working with blind children. Despite the estimate that Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest percentage of blind children in the world, we do not have the required skills in the region to help develop these children and give them the skills they need to thrive. Orientation and Mobility focuses on this. Completing this degree is a step forward in being able to build these skills in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, so more children can be reached and improve their ability to live independently. - Tracey Joubert, South Africa
